Lot 986: A Late 19th Century Vernacular Pine Plank Storage Chest
A utilitarian pine storage chest of rectangular plank construction, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The chest features a hinged lid formed from four horizontal planks and is fitted with a simple iron escutcheon to the front face. The interior is lined with decorative papers of differing ages. The lid interior is lined with plain, distressed paper, while the main storage compartment features mid-20th-century Christmas-themed paper decorated with stylised fir trees, candles, and gift boxes, alongside a holly and berry patterned paper to the base. A modern auction house label for HCP Auctions South West, Lot 986, is adhered to the front left corner of the lid.
