Lot 565: A Trio of Ceramic Items Including a German Relief-Moulded Beer Stein, a Salt-Glazed Jug, and a Studio Pottery Bowl
This lot comprises three ceramic items of varied styles. The first is a relief-moulded stoneware beer stein of tapered cylindrical form, featuring a dark cobalt blue ground. It is decorated with a hand-painted scene depicting a man in traditional Alpine attire within a landscape, accompanied by prominent edelweiss floral motifs. The stein is fitted with an applied handle and a domed grey metal lid with a scrolled thumb lift. A handwritten inventory label numbered 9249 is present on the side.
The second item is a salt-glazed stoneware jug of tapered conical form, decorated in the Westerwald style. The mottled tan and grey body is ornamented with cobalt blue slip-trailed foliate and scroll patterns. It features a small loop handle and is topped with a dark blue globular ceramic stopper.
The third piece is a studio pottery bowl with a wide flared rim and a low foot rim. The rim is finished in a mottled blue glaze, while the buff-coloured central well features three incised stylized wheat or leaf motifs. The base is marked with the incised numeral 45 and an impressed circular mark containing a vertical line and three stacked squares beneath a curved line.
