Lot 639: A Collection of Maschera del Galeone Handcrafted Venetian Masquerade Masks
A collection of authentic Venetian masquerade masks produced by Maschera del Galeone. The group includes several traditional Commedia dell’arte designs, including multiple jester-style masks featuring fabric points finished with metal bells, and a long-nosed Zanni-style mask decorated with hand-painted playing card suit motifs including hearts, spades, and clubs. The collection also contains smaller eye masks. Each piece is constructed with a hand-painted base and embellished with decorative textiles such as velvet and brocade, accented with metallic gold-tone braid, beads, and small bells. An original printed swing tag is attached to one mask, identifying it as a Maschera del Galeone product, handmade in Venice in the tradition of the late 17th-century Commedia dell’arte. A handwritten note accompanying the lot identifies them as a collection of authentic vintage Venetian masks, reference V: 932. Visible lot stickers include numbers 639 and 671.
