Lot 817: A Pair of Mahogany Chippendale Style Side Chairs
A pair of late 19th or early 20th-century mahogany side chairs in the Chippendale revival style. Each chair features a shaped top rail with carved foliate scrolls above a decorative pierced central splat. The splat is intricately carved with scrollwork and a central stylised urn motif. The fixed, padded seats are upholstered in a floral tapestry-style fabric featuring a repeating pattern of red flowers and olive-green foliage on a cream ground, finished with a coordinating braided gimp trim. The chairs are supported on turned front legs terminating in metal casters, with square-section swept rear legs. The frames are constructed from a dark-stained mahogany with traditional joinery.
