Lot 623a: Large Royal Navy White Ensign – Falklands War Homecoming Association, Circa 1982
An exceptionally large Royal Navy White Ensign, measuring approximately 11ft × 5ft 6in (335 × 168cm).
Of traditional multi-piece sewn and appliquéd construction, featuring the Union Flag within the canton and the red Cross of St George upon a white field. The ensign retains its original integral rope hoist, turned wooden toggle and spliced lower attachment loop.
Believed to date from the late 20th century and, according to accompanying oral provenance, last used aboard a Royal Navy vessel returning from service connected with the 1982 Falklands War. This historical association has not been independently verified and is therefore offered as provenance by repute.
Presented in good, unrestored and highly displayable condition, with general service wear, age-related staining, loose threads and some wear or separation around the upper hoist attachment, consistent with its age and intended maritime use.
