Lot 241: A Vintage Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Connoisseurs’ Collection
A vintage Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Connoisseurs’ Collection, comprising a limited edition set of six die-cast model vintage vehicles released in 1984. The collection is housed in a polished dark wood presentation case with a hinged lid, featuring a red velvet-lined interior with individual recessed compartments and brass-toned identification nameplates for each car. The vehicles include a 1911 Ford ‘T’ Tourer, a 1909 Opel 4/8hp Coupe, a 1911 Daimler A12 Tourer, a 1910 Benz 14/30hp Landaulet, a 1912 Packard Model 30 Landaulet, and a 1911 Maxwell ‘GAR’ Roadster. A brass-toned rectangular plate on the inner lid is incised with the characters MATCHBOX MODELS OF YESTERYEAR CONNOISSEURS’ COLLECTION LIMITED EDITION. A small brass-toned plate on the interior front rim is incised LIMITED EDITION No R 0388. The set is complete with its original Certificate of Authenticity titled The Unique CONNOISSEURS’ COLLECTION, stating it is a complete set of six vehicles produced in a strictly limited edition of 50,000 sets, dated 23rd August, 1984, with a red embossed seal reading MATCHBOX LIMITED. The set includes its original corrugated cardboard shipping carton, printed with the MATCHBOX logo and code – YY60-27426, bearing a red and yellow Receipted Parcel A ROYAL MAIL SERVICE label.
