Lot 242: A Vintage Matchbox Pills Potions and Powders Special Edition Gift Set
A vintage Matchbox Pills, Potions and Powders special edition gift set, featuring a collection of six die-cast model vehicles. This commemorative set consists of six 1930s-style delivery vans, each finished in the vintage commercial livery of well-known pharmaceutical brands. The vehicles are presented in their original dark teal display box, which features a flip-open lid with an internal plastic moulded tray. The cover depicts an illustrated apothecary interior scene. The underside of the lid bears a printed prescription note headed DR CARL SCHLESINGER M.D., detailing the history of home remedies. Each model is constructed with a die-cast metal body and plastic components including wheels and fenders.
The vehicles include a dark blue Alka-Seltzer van with white lettering reading BE WISE ALKALIZE Alka-Seltzer, a cream-coloured Cod Liver Oil van with blue fenders and green scrollwork, a red Tiger Balm van with blue fenders and an orange tiger logo, a green Vicks Vaporub van with blue fenders and a triangular logo, a tan Bayer Aspirin van with brown fenders and the Bayer cross mark, and a blue Milk of Magnesia van. The box front is printed with the MATCHBOX logo and the text PILLS, POTIONS & POWDERS SPECIAL Gift Set EDITION.
