Lot 172: A Vintage Mid-Century Two-Gallon Painted Steel Petrol Can
A vintage mid-century two-gallon painted steel petrol can, of upright rectangular form with a single integrated strap handle and a screw-top filler neck. The top surface of the can is embossed with block lettering in four horizontal rows, reading MOTOR PETROLEUM SPIRIT HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. The can is finished in a weathered red paint over its steel body, showing an industrial patina consistent with age and use. A knurled metal screw cap with a textured cross-bar grip is fitted to the corner spout. The item bears a white adhesive label from HCP Auctions South West, marked Lot 172, and a hand-written paper inventory tag reading 9249 R £15.
