Lot 345: A Collection of Vintage Fortnum & Mason and Marks & Spencer Lithographed Novelty Confectionery Tins
A collection of vintage Fortnum & Mason and Marks & Spencer lithographed novelty confectionery tins of various forms, primarily produced for the Christmas and celebratory gift markets. The collection features a circular musical biscuit tin with a teal ground, decorated with musical notes and a red bow, bearing the printed logo FORTNUM & MASON EST 1707 and vertical text reading MUSICAL BIRTHDAY BISCUITS. Also included is an M&S shortbread tin modelled as a red double-decker London bus, printed with M&S EST. 1884 and SCOTTISH SHORTBREAD, with a destination blind reading 159 Brixton Kennington Trafalgar Square Oxford Street and PADDINGTON BASIN. A conical teal-coloured truffle tin is decorated with gold-tone stylized feather patterns and small perforations, retaining a blue adhesive label reading M&S -FOOD- SWISS TRUFFLE ASSORTMENT LIGHT UP TREE. Completing the collection is a cylindrical tin resembling a Nutcracker soldier in a blue, gold, and red uniform, and a rectangular storage tin with a red base and a silver-toned lid featuring a repeating embossed geometric pattern of crosses and dots. The Fortnum & Mason tin bears a handwritten white paper sticker on the lid reading 0456 9370 Biscuit tin.
