Lot 981: A Collection of Vintage Vinyl LP Records including HMV and RCA Titles
A collection of vintage vinyl LP records including HMV and RCA titles, comprising approximately five to ten 12-inch albums primarily featuring mid-century classical and international recordings. The group includes a His Master’s Voice pressing of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 ‘Pathétique’, performed by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Mravinsky (ALP 1899), featuring a red semi-circle ‘Nipper’ label. Also present is an RCA Living Stereo audiophile recording with catalogue number SF-5034, and a Soviet-era Melodiya LP titled ‘ЛЮБИМЫЕ РУССКИЕ ПЕСНИ’ (Favourite Russian Songs) with a jacket depicting a traditional landscape. A Liberty Records title and a green-sleeved album are also included. The jackets are constructed from printed card, several of which bear adhesive labels including a pink circular price sticker reading ‘£2’ and a white rectangular label with the handwritten number ‘46510’.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and handling throughout. The His Master\'s Voice disc (photo 1) displays light surface marks and dust. The jackets exhibit ring wear, bumped corners, and edge creasing, with partial seam splits to some sleeves. The Melodiya jacket (photo 2) shows significant rubbing and creasing to the opening edge. Several adhesive labels are present on the jacket fronts, including a stock sticker (photo 1) and a price sticker (photo 2). Media condition is generally graded as Very Good (VG) to Good (G), and sleeves as Good (G).
