Lot 515: A Trio of Antique and Vintage British Decorative Earthenware Items
A trio of antique and vintage British decorative earthenware items, comprising a large pitcher, a small rectangular vase, and a polychrome figurine of a woman tending waterfowl. The large pitcher features a bulbous peach-coloured body decorated with a shoulder band of plums and citrus fruit against a white ground, finished with a black rim. Its base bears a printed mark of a knotted rope enclosing the characters B, &, S, G, and L, identified as the work of Burgess and Leigh, alongside an orange hand-painted symbol and a small incised V. The rectangular vase features a flared rim and is decorated with a hand-painted maritime scene depicting a multi-masted sailing ship at sea; the base is marked with a printed five-pointed crown logo reading EMPIRE WARE STOKE-ON-TRENT ENGLAND IVORY GLAZE and a hand-painted orange character resembling a 2. The figurine depicts a woman in traditional rural attire with a yellow bonnet and blue bodice, carrying a basket and surrounded by geese and ducks on a naturalistic base.
