Lot 560: An Antique Hammered Copper Frying Pan
An antique hammered copper frying pan / skillet of traditional 19th-century construction. The body is formed from heavy-gauge copper featuring a visible cramped or dovetail seam joining the circular base to the vertical walls. The exterior base displays a dense pattern of hand-hammered indentations. It is fitted with a long, hand-forged wrought iron handle featuring a split or cleft tang, secured to the copper body with a single large iron rivet. The interior surface shows significant wear with the original tin lining largely worn away, exposing the underlying metal and heavy oxidation. No maker’s marks, stamps, or hallmarks are present on the metalwork. A white adhesive paper auction tag is attached to the handle, printed with the text HCP Auctions South West and featuring a handwritten Lot 560.
