Lot 1055: A Vintage Hornby Scalextric 300 Electric Model Racing Set
A vintage Hornby Scalextric 300 electric model racing set, manufactured in Margate, England. The set is housed in its original illustrated cardboard box, which features artwork depicting two Mini Clubman 1275GT racing cars in red and yellow liveries. The red car is marked with number 16 and SWIFTUNE ENG. LTD. RACING DIV. branding. The set includes multiple sections of black plastic track, white plastic track barriers with printed Dunlop and Shell Oils decals, and a blue plastic hand controller. These components are presented in a white polystyrene internal tray alongside various instruction leaflets and a national service dealer network guide. The box lid displays the printed text SCALEXTRIC 300 and ELECTRIC MODEL RACING, with a Hornby Railways logo and address for Westwood, Margate, Kent printed to the lower corner. A white adhesive label reading 13 is affixed to the upper right. The hand controller is embossed with the SCALEXTRIC name. Additional paperwork includes a brochure for Kosaurus Rex and a leaflet headed ROVEX INTERNATIONAL.
Condition report:
The original cardboard box is in poor condition with heavy creasing and a large structural tear to the lid surface (photo 1 and 2). Evidence of previous tape repairs and surface scuffing is present across the exterior. The internal contents are in a used and organised state, though the two original racing cars and the power transformer are missing from the lot (photo 3). The track pieces and hand controller exhibit surface dust and signs of wear consistent with age and use. Associated paperwork is heavily creased and includes unrelated toy documentation (photo 3).
