Lot 1090: A Vintage Painted Softwood Slanted-lid Storage Chest
A vintage painted softwood slanted-lid storage chest of rustic construction, likely fashioned from pine planks. The chest features a distinctive slanted lid, hinged with simple metal butt hinges, and is finished in a distressed blue-green paint to the exterior to achieve an aged patina. The interior is painted white and includes a leather or heavy fabric stay strap to prevent the lid from over-extending. The front face of the lid is embellished with a decorative brass-toned metal ring pull featuring a lion-mask backplate. A white adhesive auction label is present on the upper right of the lid, reading HCF Auctions South West Lot 1090. A handwritten paper tag is also taped to the top surface, bearing the characters V7315 and NO RES.

Condition report:
The chest is in a weathered and distressed condition consistent with its rustic design. There is significant paint wear, scuffing, and chipping across the exterior surfaces, particularly visible along the edges and corners (photo 1). Narrow gaps are present between several of the wooden planks on the lid and sides (photo 1). The white interior paint shows signs of use including scuffing and minor surface debris (photo 2). The lion-mask hardware has a patinated finish but appears functional (photo 1).
