Lot 1160: An Antique Victorian Painted Pine Two-Door Wardrobe / Armoire
An antique Victorian painted pine two-door wardrobe / armoire, featuring a decorative arched pediment with a central carved foliate and circular motif. The two-door construction incorporates large arched recessed upper panels above smaller square recessed lower panels. The doors are flanked by fluted pilasters, each headed and footed with carved blocks depicting a rose motif. The exterior is finished in a heavily distressed white paint, while the interior remains in unpainted natural pine, displaying a knotted grain and a metal hinge plate. A metal escutcheon is fitted to the right-hand door. A white adhesive label on the lower left of the door facade is printed with the number 1160. Condition report:
The wardrobe is finished in a heavily distressed white paint with widespread wear, flaking, and cracking, revealing the underlying wood (photo 1). Drying cracks or shakes are visible in the wooden panels, notably within the arched sections of the doors and the pediment (photo 2). There is visible wear and minor wood loss to the base and corners (photo 1). The interior shows staining and marks consistent with age and domestic use (photo 4).
