Lot 1161: Jack Motley and Others A Collection of Four Framed Artworks
Jack Motley and others a collection of four framed artworks, comprising a variety of mediums including watercolour, print, and photography. The lot features a colour print after a watercolour by Jack Motley, depicting Eilean Donan Castle and its bridge over Loch Duich, Scotland, bearing the printed signature JACK MOTLEY in the upper right and a credit line for Highland Homes in the lower margin. A historical urban scene in watercolour depicts The Sandhill Newcastle on Tyne, showing multi-storey buildings including one with a sign for Cocoa Rooms, inscribed with the location and a signature starting with a cursive character C in the lower right. Also included is a sepia-toned contemporary photograph of the Charles Bridge in Prague, signed with a cursive T and dated 2012 in the lower right margin. The collection is completed by an atmospheric misty river landscape, possibly in watercolour or pastel, presented in a deep burgundy mat.
Condition report:
The atmospheric river landscape shows significant mat burn and toning to the paper edges (photo 2). The Newcastle-upon-Tyne watercolour displays moderate toning and distinct mat burn where the paper meets the frame mount (photo 3). The Jack Motley print shows some light surface marks to the matting (photo 1). The Prague photograph appears in good condition within a modern black frame (photo 4). All items are housed in various wood, gilt, or black frames.
