Lot 747: A Vintage Three-Piece Novelty Red Tractor Glazed Earthenware Tea Set
A vintage three-piece novelty red tractor glazed earthenware tea set, comprising two lidded teapots and a matching cream jug. Each vessel is modelled in the form of a vintage agricultural tractor, complete with a driver’s seat, steering wheel, and exhaust pipe, resting upon a textured base representing a harvested field. The pieces are constructed from moulded earthenware and finished with hand-painted polychrome glazes in red, black, and grey. The handles and spouts are stylised as upright bundles of yellow wheat ears. The interiors are finished with a clear cream glaze. No maker’s marks, signatures, or country of origin stamps are visible on any of the items.
Condition report:
The set shows signs of age and previous use. A visible chip is present on the unglazed base rim of one teapot near the rear tyre (photo 1). Minor glaze nicks and surface wear are evident around the rims of the teapots and the spout of the cream jug (photo 4). Fine surface crazing is present to the glaze throughout, which is consistent with the material and manufacturing method.
