Lot 926: A Vintage Cecil Spring Grip Dumb-bell Tin and Salt & 'Bots Robot Shakers
A vintage Cecil spring grip dumb-bell tin and Salt & ‘Bots robot shakers. The first item is a rectangular lithographed tin-plated steel container in a red colour, produced for housing Cecil spring-grip exercise dumb-bells. The lid and side panels are decorated with white text reading “CECIL” Spring Grip DUMB-BELLS. The second item is a set of novelty wind-up salt and pepper shakers in the form of stylised robots, housed in their original retail cardboard and plastic packaging. The set includes a white robot marked with an S on the chest and a black robot marked with a P. The packaging is printed with WIND UP ROBOTS, SALT & ‘BOTS, and SALT & PEPPER SHAKERS. The robots are designed to walk via integrated plastic clockwork wind-up keys. A white adhesive auction label reading HCP Auctions South West Lot 926 is affixed to the front of the packaging.
Condition report:
The vintage tin shows significant signs of age and use, including overall surface scratching, localized oxidation, and rust along the edges and base (photo 1). There is notable paint loss across the lid and sides (photo 1). The robot shakers appear to be in unused and excellent condition within the packaging (photo 2). The outer retail box for the robots displays minor shelf wear, including small creases and rubbing to the corners (photo 2). The functionality of the clockwork wind-up mechanisms has not been tested.
