Lot 259: A Pair of Cast Stone Sack Planters
A pair of cast stone sack planters, each of circular form with a heavily textured exterior surface moulded to simulate the gathered folds and coarse weave of a burlap bag. The planters are finished with irregular ruffled rims, designed to replicate the untidy appearance of the top of a tied sack. The construction is solid cast reconstituted stone, featuring a naturally weathered finish with varying earth tones. One planter demonstrates a central drainage hole at the base to facilitate horticultural use. The heavy textured finish provides a naturalistic aesthetic, which has been enhanced by the variegated patina and lichen growth acquired through outdoor exposure. No permanent maker’s marks, signatures, or stamped identifications are present on either piece.
