Lot 378: Vintage Wicker Picnic Hamper Suitcase with Gingham Lining
A rectangular picnic hamper of suitcase form, constructed from light-toned horizontal wood slats overlaid with a dark brown split-cane lattice weave. The edges are finished with a continuous coiled rattan trim, matching the thick coiled rattan carrying handle. The hamper is secured by a dark brown leather closure strap with a gold-tone metal turn-lock. The interior is fully lined with a blue and white gingham fabric. The inside of the lid is fitted with eight metal snap-fastener studs, indicating the basket was designed to hold a picnic service, though the original plates and cutlery are missing. No maker’s marks, brand names, or labels are visible on the body, lining, or hardware.
