Lot 419: A Collection of Vintage Leatherworking and Cobbler's Tools in a Galvanised Metal Box
An assortment of traditional leatherworking and shoemaking hand tools housed in a rectangular galvanised steel toolbox with a hinged lid. The collection includes a cobbler’s hammer with a square face and wooden handle, a flared metal burnishing or creasing tool with a turned wooden handle, and a T-handled hand tool. The set is accompanied by a rectangular grey sharpening whetstone and various wooden handles for awls or punches, including one with a green-coloured band. Two circular metal tins are present, one retaining its lid. Materials include a quantity of irregular vegetable-tanned leather offcuts in a reddish-brown tone and a paper packet containing small metal cobbler’s tacks. A heavy metal component positioned at the base of the box features an impressed mark comprising the numerals 6 and 9. No further maker’s marks or signatures are legible on the tool heads or handles. Fragments of printed text and blue graphics are visible on the paper packaging and newspaper lining, though they are not legible as complete words or brand names.
