Lot 444: A Mid-20th Century Royal Doulton Earthenware Dinner Service in the Westwood Pattern
A mid-20th century Royal Doulton earthenware dinner service in the Westwood pattern, featuring a transfer-printed autumnal botanical design. The motif consists of wildflowers and leaves in a palette of brown, tan, ochre, and muted green, set against a cream-glazed ground. The set displays a functional mid-century modern aesthetic, specifically seen in the circular recessed handles on the tureen lids and sauce boat, which are finished in a contrasting dark chocolate brown glaze. The service comprises a collection of items including two lidded vegetable tureens, an oval serving platter, a sauce boat on a matching stand, and several stacks of dinner and side plates. Although no maker’s marks or backstamps are visible in the photographs as the undersides are not shown, the distinctive form and decoration are unmistakably consistent with Royal Doulton’s TC1025 Westwood range produced during the 1960s and 1970s. A white rectangular inventory label is present on the uppermost plate in one stack.
