Lot 481: Three English earthenware decorative items including an Empire Ware vase
A collection of three English earthenware items comprising a pitcher, a square-sectioned vase, and a figurine. The pitcher is finished in a lustrous amber glaze with a central horizontal frieze featuring transfer-printed fruit, including plums and peaches with green foliage. The base of the pitcher features a printed black mark of a rope tied in a Staffordshire knot containing the characters S and G in the loops, with B to the left and L to the right. The tapered square-sectioned vase features an ivory glaze decorated with a multi-masted sailing ship on a sea under a blue and white sky. The base is marked with a black printed stamp consisting of a crown and scroll reading EMPIRE WARE and STOKE-ON-TRENT, followed by ENGLAND 31 and IVORY GLAZE. A small hand-painted orange mark resembling the number 2 is also visible on the base. The hand-painted polychrome figurine depicts an elderly woman in rural dress, including a blue blouse, white apron, and yellow headscarf, holding a basket of eggs with two chickens at her feet.
