Lot 487: A Set of Five Heritage Regency Collection English Fine Bone China Decorative Wildlife Plates by Dorothy Wallace
A set of five circular decorative fine bone china plates featuring naturalistic British wildlife illustrations by the artist Dorothy Wallace. Each plate is finished with a gilded outer rim. The transfer-printed decorations depict a pair of rabbits among primroses and violets; a pair of foxes with wild roses and elderflowers; two European hedgehogs with blackberries and a butterfly; two red squirrels on an oak branch with acorns; and a single badger amongst foxgloves and ferns. The printed signature Dorothy Wallace is visible within the artwork on the rabbit, fox, and hedgehog plates. The underside of each plate features a black printed backstamp with a central graphic of a man in a top hat and Regency-era dress, flanked by the words ENGLISH BONE CHINA and with MADE IN ENGLAND printed below. This central device is enclosed by the words HERITAGE REGENCY in an upper arc and COLLECTION in a lower arc. Each plate also bears a printed descriptive text block providing natural history details, including the common and Latin names of the animal, its typical measurements, and its habitat.
