Lot 550: A Collection of Chinese Style Porcelain Dining Wares and Cat Figurines
An assortment of glazed porcelain items featuring traditional motifs and cat forms. The collection includes multiple bowls of varying sizes and matching ceramic soup spoons. The bowls are decorated with polychrome floral sprays and circular medallions containing a seated figure. These medallions are bordered by red fretwork containing the black painted Chinese characters 長 (Cháng) and 壽 (Shòu), signifying Longevity. The lot features a teapot modelled as a seated cat holding a large orange fish, where the fish’s mouth serves as the spout and the lid is formed by the top of the cat’s head. A second smaller teapot is shaped like a cat with wide eyes and floral decoration. A tall, slender cat figurine features a cream-coloured ground decorated with pink and blue chinoiserie-style flowers. The group also includes several small porcelain figurines of seated cats with blue underglaze markings, suitable for use as chopstick rests, and a miniature cobalt blue cup with gilt highlights and a central hand-painted medallion.
