Lot 562: An Assortment of Southeast Asian Style Decorative Elephant Motifs
An assortment of Southeast Asian style decorative elephant motifs, featuring a variety of wall decor and ornamental objects. The lot features a Thai Kalaga-style textile wall hanging / mail sorter on a black fabric ground with three square pockets. Each pocket is embellished with high-relief padded embroidery depicting an elephant, densely decorated with metallic gold and silver-tone sequins, beads, and wirework within foliate brocade borders. The hanging is mounted on a wooden dowel with turned finials. Also included is a vertical black shadow box frame containing eight graduated elephant figurines in a mottled grey-green stone-like material. A miniature Indian painting on card depicts a caparisoned elephant carrying two riders, set against a dark background within a decorative green and gold border. A small metal picture frame with a red and gold-tone finish features a caparisoned elephant at the crest, with an insert reading EAST TIMES MUGHAL ELEPHANT FRAME. The collection is completed by a red lacquer-effect tray, a carved wooden elephant head supporting a clear glass sphere, and various metal ornaments.
