Lot 615: Weathermaster Aneroid Barometer in a Rough-Hewn Serpentine Stone Case
A mid-20th-century aneroid barometer, the circular mechanism set within a thick, irregular slab of natural metamorphic serpentine stone. The stone features a mottled grey-green colour with deep reddish-maroon veining and a textured, unpolished surface. The silvered dial is protected by a glass lens and contains a central aperture revealing the internal bellows. The dial is printed with scales for both inches and millibars, alongside weather forecasting text including Fair, Very Dry, Change, Rain, and Stormy. Instructions on the dial read HAND MOVES TO RIGHT WEATHER IMPROVEMENT and HAND MOVES TO LEFT WEATHER DETERIORATION. The right side of the dial bears the printed name WEATHERMASTER. The instrument is fitted with a black indicator hand and a gold-tone brass setting hand. The reverse of the stone slab is flat with tool marks visible and features two pre-drilled holes for wall mounting.
