Lot 616: A glazed ceramic novelty cookie jar with a figural Tetley Tea character lid
A glazed ceramic novelty cookie jar comprising a cylindrical base and a figural lid. The base is finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze, decorated with the word Cookies in a white, serif, uppercase font. The lid is sculpted and hand-painted to depict the head of an elderly man wearing a glossy brown cap and round white-rimmed spectacles, with a textured light-tan fringe of hair or beard. The interior of the jar and the underside of the lid are finished in a dark blue glaze. No maker marks, signatures, or factory stamps are visible on the base or the underside of the lid. A white adhesive label is present on the side of the blue base, reading HCP Auctions South West, Lot 616, and www.hcpauctions.net.
