Lot 665: A Set of Chinese Jingdezhen Porcelain Mun Shou Pattern Tableware
A set of Chinese porcelain tableware decorated in the Mun Shou or longevity pattern, attributed to the production centre of Jingdezhen. The collection comprises a group of rice bowls, porcelain spoons, and matching rectangular spoon rests. The exterior of the bowls and the upper surfaces of the spoon rests feature a rose-pink ground decorated with scrolling red foliate and lotus designs. Interspersed are circular medallions containing the red character for longevity (Shou). The rims of the bowls are decorated with a polychrome geometric fret border in yellow, blue, and black. A red stamped mark is present on the base of the bowls. The top line reads 中國景德鎮 in Chinese characters, identifying the place of manufacture as Jingdezhen, China. The middle line reads MADE IN CHINA in English. The bottom line features the number 21 between double horizontal bars, transcribed as =21=. The style and composition of the mark indicate the pieces were produced in the mid-to-late 20th century, likely the 1970s or 1980s, for the export market. The spoons are finished in white porcelain with a matching red longevity character medallion inside the bowl.
