A set of six Royal Worcester fine bone china cabinet plates in the Thorburn’s Mammals pattern. Each circular plate is constructed from fine white bone china with a gilded rim and features transfer-printed illustrations of British wildlife based on original artworks by Archibald Thorburn (1860–1935). The subjects include the Common Hare, Red Squirrel, Roe Deer, Water Voles, Harvest Mice, and a Wild Rabbit, each depicted in naturalistic settings. The reverse of each plate bears a printed brown factory mark consisting of a crown above a circle containing the number 51 and four W characters, surrounded by ROYAL WORCESTER, FINE BONE CHINA, and MADE IN ENGLAND. Additional text reads THORBURN’S MAMMALS FROM THE ARCHIVES OF THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM, followed by specific subject titles such as THE COMMON HARE 1919. A circular museum mark is inscribed BRITISH MUSEUM NATURAL HISTORY around a crown and lions. The reverse also includes a CW monogram logo and text stating Copyright 1991 Compton & Woodhouse Limited and Strictly limited edition of 15,000 complete sets. An incised mark reading 38-2 is visible on the base of the Hare plate.
