A hand-knotted Baluch tribal rug originating from the border regions of Iran and Afghanistan. The piece is constructed with a wool pile on a wool foundation, exhibiting a flexible handle and a fine, even hand-knotted weave visible on the reverse. The design features a camel-coloured central field decorated with multiple horizontal rows of repeating geometric shrub motifs in madder red and indigo blue. This field is enclosed by a prominent main border of dark indigo blue, featuring a continuous geometric floral pattern in red and cream, flanked by several narrow guard borders with zig-zag and repeating geometric motifs. The rug exhibits natural colour variations, known as abrash, throughout the weave. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are present on the visible portions of the rug.
