Lot 979: A mid-century modern sapele mahogany three-piece bedroom suite
A mid-20th-century three-piece bedroom suite comprising a wardrobe, a dressing table, and a small chest of drawers. The suite is constructed with sapele mahogany veneers, exhibiting a prominent vertical ribbon grain pattern. The dressing table is designed with a recessed central section above a kneehole, flanked by two banks of drawers; the upper drawers on the dressing table feature decorative curved fronts. The small chest contains two full-width drawers. Each piece is elevated on tapered ebonised wooden legs. The hardware consists of brass-toned metal T-bar pulls and circular button-style knobs. The tall wardrobe features a single door with a keyhole entry. The drawer construction is consistent with machine-cut dovetail joinery common in British mass-produced furniture of the 1950s and 1960s. No maker’s marks, stamps, or manufacturer labels are visible on any of the pieces.
