Lot 1032: An Assortment of Framed Works including a William IV W. P. Hodges Hunting Print
An assortment of framed works and a wall mirror, featuring a prominent hand-coloured aquatint engraving alongside decorative Asian-style works. The principal item is a William IV period hand-coloured aquatint engraving titled The Chase of the Roebuck, depicting a traditional British hunting scene with riders in scarlet coats and a pack of hounds in a landscape. The lower margin bears several printed inscriptions: Painted by W. P. Hodges Esqr. to the left, Engraved by H. Alken and R. G. Reeve to the right, and the title centrally. A publication line is legible as London, Published Octr. 1st 1834 by Thos. McLean, 26 Haymarket. The lot also includes two Asian works on silk or paper grounds. One bears a calligraphic inscription in Chinese script including the characters for the artist Wu Qinhu, also known as Wu Jing, accompanied by two red seal marks and a cyclical date. This work depicts blossoming red flowers on a branch. The second Asian work depicts white butterflies and bees surrounding a flowering branch. The collection is completed by a mid-century wall mirror with an asymmetrical arched top, mounted to a wooden backing with metal clips.
