Lot 64: Two Heavy-Duty Copper Industrial Funnels
Not sold
Two heavy-duty industrial or domestic funnels, constructed from a copper with a prominent verdigris patina. The first funnel features a conical body with a visible vertical seam and a separately attached spout secured with a thick, visible solder joint. The rim is rolled for structural integrity. The second funnel is of a heavier construction, featuring a thick-walled rim, possibly cast, tapering into a conical body and a spout that appears crimped at the terminal end. Both items exhibit a rich reddish-brown surface with extensive green oxidation, consistent with high copper content and age in a utilitarian environment. A piece of masking tape is applied to the side of the seamed funnel, featuring the handwritten characters 9 X 2 R12 in black ink; the R12 is written below the 9 X 2. There are no other visible maker’s marks, stamps, or hallmarks on the metal surfaces.
Seamed funnel diameter: 23 cm
Spout length: 13 cm.
Condition report:
Both funnels exhibit significant surface oxidation and heavy verdigris throughout (photo 1). The metal shows multiple dents, surface pitting, and irregularities consistent with heavy industrial use (photo 2). The spout of the cast-rim funnel is bent and crimped at the tip (photo 1 and 3). There is adhesive residue and a piece of masking tape present on the exterior of one funnel (photo 1). The interior surfaces show heavy mineral deposits and corrosion (photo 2 and 4).
