Lot 65: A Collection of Red Painted Cast Iron G-Clamps
Sold for: £6
A collection of five G-clamps, also referred to as C-clamps, featuring red-painted cast iron frames. The set includes three larger clamps and two smaller examples, all of traditional workshop construction with steel threaded screws, T-bar handles, and swivel pads. The cast frames show a slightly textured surface finish under the paint. One larger clamp is marked with an impressed numeral 4 on the frame, and one smaller clamp bears an impressed numeral 2, corresponding to their respective jaw opening capacities. The threaded rods are finished with a flat circular shoe to the clamping end and a sliding T-bar handle for adjustment. No maker’s name or brand is visible on the frames or hardware.
Large clamp frame length: 15 cm
Small clamp frame length: 10 cm.
Condition report:
All items are in used, workshop-worn condition with significant surface rust and oxidation visible across the threaded screws, T-bar handles, and swivel pads (photos 1 and 2). The original red paint on the cast iron frames is heavily chipped, worn, and shows areas of grime and light corrosion throughout the set (photo 2). One clamp shows a larger area of paint loss and exposed metal on the upper curve of the frame (photo 3). The threads are likely stiff or seized due to heavy rust accumulation and will require cleaning to restore movement. All hardware components, including the sliding bars and pads, appear to be present and structurally intact without visible cracks to the cast frames.
