Lot 839: A Late Victorian Cast Iron Sad Iron and a Brass Chamberstick
Not sold
A late Victorian cast iron sad iron and a brass chamberstick. The sad iron features a heavy cast body with a pointed toe and flat heel, connected to a hand-forged or wrought iron handle by two integral arms. The top surface of the iron is cast with a raised three-lobed symbol resembling a clover or heart, positioned above additional characters that are obscured by heavy oxidation. The upright arm of the handle is impressed with the word ENGLAND. The accompanying brass chamberstick is of traditional Victorian form, comprising a wide, shallow drip pan with a raised rim, a central lathe-turned socket, and a curved finger loop handle topped with a thumb rest. The socket is designed with a flared rim to receive a single candle.
