Lot 41: A Late Victorian W. Thornhill & Co Sterling Silver Multi-Tool Pocket Knife
A sterling silver multi-tool folding pocket knife from the Late Victorian period. The handle scales are constructed from solid sterling silver, decorated with a diagonal reeded “barley-twist” engine-turned pattern. The handle bears British hallmarks including a “B B C” maker’s mark in rectangular punches, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London assay office, and the date letter “p” corresponding to 1890. The internal steel components comprise four folding tools: a pair of small scissors with a leaf spring tensioner, a button hook, a pen blade, and a narrow notched tool. A tang stamp on the base of the scissors and button hook reads “W. THORNHILL & CO LONDON”, identifying the item as retailed by the prestigious London cutler.
