Lot 154: A Pair of George V Chester Sterling Silver Brushes
A pair of sterling silver vanity brushes from the George V period, comprising a handled hairbrush and a rectangular clothes brush. Both pieces are decorated with elaborate Rococo-style repoussé work featuring scrolled acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and diagonal fluting surrounding a central blank oval cartouche. The bristles are natural and set into dark wooden bases. The silver backs bear a full set of British hallmarks. These include the maker’s mark “W.N” within a rectangular shield, the three wheat sheaves and a sword for the Chester assay office, a lion passant for sterling silver purity, and the lowercase date letter “x” corresponding to 1923. The hairbrush further features a stamped design registration number “RD 206865”.
