Lot 496: A Collection of Vintage Hand-blown Glass Fishing Floats

This auction ended on 31 October 2026.

Start price: £20

Estimated price: £20 - £40

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £16

A collection of vintage hand-blown glass fishing floats of varying dimensions and colours. The assortment includes spheres in emerald green, forest green, cobalt blue, and a dark olive green, alongside a single smaller amber-coloured float. Several examples demonstrate traditional manufacturing techniques, featuring prominent sealed pontil marks or “buttons” where the glass was detached from the blowpipe and fused. Two of the blue spheres exhibit a moulded-style textured surface pattern, while the remaining floats are smooth-bodied. The glass contains characteristic internal air bubbles and “seeds” indicative of the hand-blowing process. An auction house lot slip is present, inscribed in printed type “Richard – 618 / A good collection of vintage hand blown / fishing floats / Reserve £20.00”, accompanied by a small white adhesive label printed “Lot 496”.
