Lot 580: A Mary Rose Commemorative Boxwood Sundial Compass and a Trio of Collectibles
A collection of three diverse items including a maritime commemorative scientific instrument, a pair of folding opera glasses, and an onyx presentation box. The maritime instrument is a portable boxwood sundial with an integrated magnetic compass, featuring a circular screw-top case and a dial plate engraved with Roman numeral hour markers and astronomical symbols. It is housed in a black rectangular presentation box with a fitted interior and a printed label on the inner lid featuring a Tudor ship illustration and the text THE MARY ROSE 1511-1545. The folding opera glasses feature black-finished frames with a central focusing wheel, stored within a brown textured leather-covered case with a brass-coloured latch. The decorative casket is constructed from banded onyx panels with a brass-coloured metal frame and sits on four small spherical feet, with an interior lined in red velvet.
