Lot 921: A Late Victorian Renaissance Revival Carved Oak Open Armchair
Sold for: £8
A carved oak open armchair from the late Victorian period, executed in the Renaissance fashion. The chair features a rectangular backrest upholstered in green velvet, contrasting with a seat upholstered in a floral tapestry fabric depicting foliate motifs in cream, green, and pink. The seat is finished with a border of brass-headed upholstery tacks. The wooden frame is elaborately carved, with scrolled armrests terminating in acanthus leaf and rosette carvings. The front legs are square-blocked at the joints and terminate in prominent lion’s paw feet, joined by a deeply carved stretcher featuring scrolled foliate work. The chair has been described contextually as a portable social distancing sign. No maker’s marks or manufacturer labels are visible on the frame.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
