Lot 4: Two Steel Felling and Hand Axes
Two hand tools of varying scale, comprising a traditional long-handled felling axe and a smaller hand hatchet. The felling axe features a large, rectangular forged steel head with a straight bit, mounted to a solid wooden handle likely crafted from ash or hickory. The handle is shaped with an ergonomic fawn-foot grip. The smaller hatchet is of a different pattern, featuring a flared, curved bit and a rectangular poll. Its wooden handle is finished with a clear varnish and includes a functional cord wrap near the grip, executed in a natural fibre such as jute or hemp. Neither tool bears a legible maker’s mark or manufacturer’s stamp on the metal or wooden components.
