Lot 174: An Art Deco Style Chromium Plated Steel Fire Screen
An Art Deco style fire screen of peaked rectangular form. The central panel is constructed from sheet metal and features an applied geometric ornament consisting of stepped diamond shapes with radiating sunburst linear details. The screen is supported by two cast metal out-swept feet. The material is likely chromium-plated or white-metal finished steel. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the base, body, or reverse of the item.
Condition report:
The front panel shows surface wear, light scratches, and a circular area of heat-related tarnish behind the central motif. The reverse is heavily discoloured with soot and heat staining consistent with use in front of an open fire. There is oxidation and loss of finish to the cast feet.
