Lot 284: A Collection of Eight British Childrens Annuals including Tiger Tims Annual Playbox Annual and Radio Fun Annual 1944-1950
This collection consists of eight illustrated childrens annuals published in the United Kingdom between 1944 and 1950. The group features titles attributed to the Amalgamated Press, London, and includes four volumes of Tiger Tims Annual (dated 1944, 1949, 1950, and one undated volume from the late 1940s), two volumes of Playbox Annual (dated 1945 and 1947), one volume of The Rainbow Annual (dated 1944), and one volume of Radio Fun Annual (dated 1947). The Radio Fun Annual includes comic strips such as Its That Man Again! featuring Tommy Handley and Inspector Stanley. Each volume is bound in original hardcover format with illustrated paper-covered boards and either cloth or paper spines. The interior content comprises a variety of comic strips, short stories, and illustrations in both colour and black and white.
Condition report:
The collection is in a condition consistent with age and heavy use. Exterior boards show general shelf wear, including bumping and rubbing to corners and edges. Several spines exhibit significant wear, including fraying to the cloth or loss to the paper covering. One volume (Tiger Tims 1949) bears a contemporary auction sticker numbered 284 on the front cover. Internally, the pages show expected age-toning and foxing. Some volumes have fragile or loose hinges and minor tears to the edges of the pages.
