Lot 407: A Wood and Sons Willow Pattern Blue and White Earthenware Part Tea and Dinner Service
A part tea and dinner service manufactured by Wood and Sons of Burslem, Staffordshire. The collection is produced in earthenware and decorated with the traditional Willow pattern in blue transfer print. The design features characteristic chinoiserie motifs including pagodas, a bridge with figures, and willow trees, all enclosed within intricate geometric and floral borders. The tea cups are of a specific design featuring distinctive angular, notched handles. Each piece bears a blue transfer-printed backstamp to the base. The mark consists of the word Willow above a stylized urn containing the words Woods Ware. To the left of the urn is Enoch 1784 and to the right is Ralph 1750, with Wood and Sons England printed below. The assortment comprises approximately thirty pieces including tea cups, matching saucers, side plates, and one large oval serving platter.
Condition report:
The service is in used condition. Visible staining is present on the interior of several tea cups. Consistent with earthenware of this period, pieces exhibit minor surface scratches and crazing to the glaze. Small chips are noted on some foot rims. No major cracks or professional repairs are visible, though bidders are advised that fine hairline cracks may be present.
