Lot 460: Two Chinese hand-tufted wool rugs in the Pagoda style
Two Chinese hand-tufted wool rugs featuring a carved floral design in the Pagoda style. The rugs are constructed with a heavy, thick-gauge wool pile on a cotton foundation with fringed ends. The decorative scheme consists of a central field with large rose blossoms and foliate scrolls, surrounded by a multi-layered border. The borders incorporate scrolling floral sprays and an angular, geometric inner frame. The colour palette is composed of soft pastel tones including rose pink, sage green, and cream, set against a neutral taupe or mushroom-coloured ground. The pile is sculpted to create a three-dimensional effect on the floral motifs. These items are similar in design and colouration to the Pagoda collection.
Condition report:
The rugs are in good, clean condition with a thick, plush pile. The fringes are intact with minor tangling noted. No significant staining, fading, or wear is visible.
