Lot 492: Two Copper Items comprising an Indo-Persian Style Ewer and a Cylindrical Flask
A lot comprising two copper vessels of varying form. The first is a hand-beaten copper ewer or jug of bulbous form, featuring chased and engraved ornamentation. The decoration includes registers of stylised floral and foliate motifs around the neck and shoulder, a band of interlocking geometric scrolls, and a heavily fluted lower body. The piece is constructed with a hand-raised body and a simple curved loop handle. The second item is a cylindrical copper flask, typically used as a bed warmer or hot water bottle. It is constructed from rolled and soldered copper sheet with a rounded shoulder and a screw-top cap, which features a wire-work carry loop. Both items exhibit a dark, aged patina.
Condition report:
The ewer shows surface wear, oxidation, and significant verdigris highlighting the recessed decorative areas, along with small indentations consistent with age and use. The flask shows general surface tarnishing, scuffs, and minor pitting consistent with domestic use.
