Lot 517: A Trio of Antique and Vintage Copper and Brass Domestic Metalware
This lot comprises three pieces of metalware typically associated with British country house or domestic fireplace use. The first item is a large circular copper cooking pot or cauldron featuring a hammered body with visible seams and a wrought iron swing handle. The second item is a Victorian style coal scuttle or bucket constructed from sheet brass with a fixed overhead handle. The third item is a copper pitcher or ewer of traditional flared form with a single handle and hammered construction. No maker’s marks are visible on any of the items.
Condition report:
The items exhibit significant signs of age and use. The copper cauldron shows a heavy aged patina with substantial green verdigris and oxidation to the interior, while the iron handle has surface rust. The brass scuttle has a deepened patina, surface dirt, and localized oxidation at the seams with a heavily darkened interior. The copper pitcher shows heavy surface oxidation, thick dust, and cobwebs.
