Lot 531: A mid-20th-century ladies chocolate brown fur coat by Smith & Sons Limited Northampton
A ladies mid-length fur coat dating to the mid-to-late 20th century, circa 1960s-1970s. The garment is constructed from vertical pelts of chocolate brown fur, featuring a wide notched lapel collar and long sleeves. The interior is fully lined with a coordinating brown acetate or rayon fabric. The coat is of heavy-weight construction and utilizes internal furriers hooks for closure, with no external buttons or fastenings visible. The interior lining bears a woven cream label with black text reading Smith & Sons Limited, Northampton. A handwritten paper tag pinned to the lining is marked 6540 and 60s/70s Lined Fur Coat. A small white sticker on the outer collar is marked 531.
Condition report:
The garment is in good vintage condition. The fur retains a consistent sheen across the body and sleeves with no significant patches of hair loss, balding, or visible tears to the pelts. The interior lining appears intact, well-seated, and free from significant staining or tearing. Potential bidders should note that vintage fur may require specialist professional cleaning or storage.
