Lot 635: A ruby cased and cut lead crystal vase attributed to Val Saint Lambert
A mid-20th century cased lead crystal art glass vase of heavy-gauge ovoid form. The vessel is constructed from clear lead crystal with a vibrant ruby-red outer casing. The decoration comprises deep, polished vertical mitre cuts that penetrate the ruby layer to reveal the clear glass core, creating a bold, geometric fluted pattern. These vertical cuts terminate at the rim to create a serrated, petal-form edge. The upper shoulder is further decorated with a series of smaller, oval lens cuts or punties. The style, technique, and colour palette are highly characteristic of the Val Saint Lambert glassworks. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible in the provided photographs.
Condition report:
The vase appears in good condition with the glass remaining clear and bright. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs are visible. Typical light shelf wear and minor surface scratching are to be expected on the underside of the base. Given the sharp edges of the deep mitre cuts and the serrated rim, minor flea bites or small nibbles may be present.
